Teen stabbed as dog squad, police chopper brought in

A 14-year-old boy remains in a critical condition after he was stabbed in a fight between two groups in Brisbane’s south that saw several police crews, the dog squad and the police helicopter brought in to “control the scene”.

A 14-year-old boy is fighting for life after being stabbed in an alleged street fight south of Brisbane that saw several police crews, the dog squad and the police helicopter brought in to “control the scene”.

Officers were called to the scene, on Kalanda St, Runcorn, just after 11.20pm Saturday and found “numerous people gathered in the street”.

They found the boy with a stab wound to his abdomen, and provide first-aid.

“Several police crews, along with the dog squad and the police helicopter gained control of the scene and established two crime scenes, one in the front yard of a house and the other in the street where the boy was found,” police confirmed in a statement on Sunday morning.

Queensland Police South Brisbane District Superintendent Craig Weatherley alleged the incident involved two feuding groups.

“They were known to each other … there were two groups known to each other,” he said.

He said the 14-year-old boy remained in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

Supt Weatherley said police had set up an investigation centre at the Morningside Child Protection Investigation Unit.

“We have identified the main players involved in this,” he alleged.

“We don’t believe that there’s any ongoing public safety concerns. There are a number of people helping us with our inquiries.”

Five people were taken into custody and are assisting police with their inquiries.
