Teen charged as police probe how he got keys to 600K car

A teenage boy has been arrested and charged with the theft of several luxury cars, including a Ferrari estimated to be worth over $400,000, as detectives probe if the alleged burglary was orchestrated by someone with inside knowledge.

Detectives have charged a 17-year-old boy with the theft of approximately $600,000 worth of luxury cars as they probe whether the alleged burglary was orchestrated by someone known to the family.

The teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is alleged to have broken into a riverfront mansion in Surfers Paradise in the early hours of Tuesday morning, as the cars’ owner slept unaware inside.

The Kingston teen is alleged to have stolen a grey 2020 Ferrari F8 Tributo from the Admilatry Dr mansion about 3am Tuesday, which was later found dumped at the Logan Hyperdome carpark about 4.40am the same day.

While a blue 2019 Porsche Cayenne, also taken from the property, was found dumped on Spruce St in Loganlea later Tuesday.

Police are still searching for a 2020 grey Mercedes-Benz sedan with Queensland registration plates 618-AD9, which was also stolen from the home.

It’s understood the keys to the high performance cars were hidden in a specific location inside the home.

Police are now probing whether the cars’ theft was undertaken by someone known to the family, or someone with prior knowledge of where the car keys are kept.

Detectives also have several other lines of inquiry.

The 17-year-old charged over the incident will appear in Southport Childrens Court on the Gold Coast today.

He was arrested in Logan about 2am Wednesday and will face court on three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of burglary; and driving while disqualified.
