A witness has described the Pinjarra Hills crash that left a teen fighting for life, saying it sounded “like a big dynamite firework sound”.

Emergency services were called to Moggill Road around 1.45pm on Wednesday, following reports of a two-vehicle crash involving a Ford Ranger and Suzuki XL7.

The driver of the Suzuki, a 17-year-old boy, was transported to the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital with serious injuries.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said he was in a “life threatening condition”.

The driver of the Ford, a 69-year-old man, and his 71-year-old, female passenger, were also transported to the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigations are ongoing.

Both lanes of Moggill Road between Pullenvale Road and Grandview Road were closed following the crash for several hours.

Brisbane Independent School principal Lachlyn Bowie detailed the moment she heard the crash.

“I was at the rear of our property, so the furthest away that I could possibly be from Moggill Rd and the sound was huge,” Ms Bowie said.

“It was such a loud bang, it sounded like a big dynamite firework sound.

“It was incredibly chaotic at that time, when our first staff member went out the front there.”

Ms Bowie went onto describe the scene as “distressing”.

“The Suzuki was crumpled from both sides, completely squished in, and then slid back on itself,” she said.

“I was down the embankment on our driveway looking up at the car, and it was so precariously hanging on top of the guardrail.

“It looked like the kind of scene where everybody should be dead.”

Ms Bowie added that it appeared that a door and tyre were flung from a vehicle.

“Looking at the scene, you would think there’s just no way you could survive that, especially when you saw that a door and the rear tyre off a car was flung,” she said.

“The impact that must have occurred for that to have landed where it did, it’s gone through the air and landed where it is, it’s crazy that more that more people haven’t been injured.”

Ms Bowie said the crash occurred just before school pick-up time, leaving the cohort of 60 students stuck on school grounds for three hours due to the road closure.

“We alerted all our families that there had been an accident on Moggill Rd out the front of the school, traffic will undoubtedly bank up, and to please drive safe,” she said.

“All we could do was wait, we were trapped, we had no idea of how long anything would be, and certainly no support in evacuating our kids off the property.

“It was really quite frustrating for us, because we had nobody from the authorities contact us to let us know what was going on.”

Ms Bowie said more awareness of the dangers of the road is needed and pleaded for a 40km/h school zone to be installed along the road.

“To see this accident happen out in front of us and to have no communication, just shows us that there’s not enough awareness of the dangers of this road and that there’s a school here,” she said.

“It should be a school zone, anywhere else in Brisbane, it would have been a 40km/h zone.”
