Murder charges against a Rockhampton man accused of killing his wife and baby will return to court just weeks before their family faces a harrowing Christmas without them.
Matthew James Cox, 31, was due in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday, October 30.
His case was briefly mentioned and adjourned to November 27. He did not appear in court.
Police will allege Mr Cox left work early on Tuesday, August 8 and brutally stabbed Tayla Black, 30 and 11-week-old Murphy Margaret in their home.
It’s further alleged he travelled to Rockhampton Airport in his wife’s white MG, flew to Brisbane and on Thursday, August 10, walked into the police station at Fortitude Valley telling officers to go to the house on Bean St, Rockhampton where the bodies of Tayla and Murphy were then found.
Tayla and Murphy were farewelled at a moving service in Rockhampton on August 25.
A pregnancy picture posted on Tayla’s Facebook, which shows her and Mr Cox alongside the caption “we can’t wait to meet you” remains frozen in time as does a photo of the couple with their newborn in February.
The posts were inundated with messages of grief, shock and support for Tayla and Murphy’s family in the aftermath of their tragic deaths and have continued to attract comments since.
Last month Isa Black wrote “‘I’m still haunted (by) this news” while just weeks ago, Tamara Emily wrote “Rest easy mumma. I hope you’re in the most beautiful place in heaven cuddling that beautiful girl of yours. May the angels surround you always.
“Your presence in this world has left an impact on many, even those who didn’t know you or your beautiful girl.”
