Police were forced to draw their firearms on a man accused of unsheathing a large hunting knife during an alleged road rage incident in Brisbane's CBD, a court has heard.

Suetena Sam Sa’o faced Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning charged with going armed so as to cause fear and six counts of stealing.

The court heard Sa’o was driving along Mary Street about 6.20pm yesterday when another vehicle has merged in front of him before they both stopped at the lights.

“He’s become irate at this move, he’s exited his vehicle with a large hunting knife in a sheath and has removed the knife from the sheath and stepped towards the vehicle in front of him,” the police prosecutor said.

At the time two police officers just happened to be passing by, she said.

“(Sa’o) immediately complied when he was presented with firearms and the knife was dropped on the ground,” the prosecutor said.

The court heard Sa’o was on bail at the time for dangerous driving where he had allegedly driven onto a footpath in pursuit of a man on foot along Beerburrum Road Caboolture on November 6.

A Legal Aid duty lawyer said Sa’o would likely be raising a defence to the dangerous driving charge. She said he had a large gap in his offending history proposed a bails with a residential condition and attend a GP to obtain a mental health plan.

Magistrate Julian Noud said the alleged offending had some concerning aspects including approaching the other vehicle with a knife in a “aggressive and threatening manner.”

“He comes before with a history that demonstrates some interest that he‘s had in the past with knives.”

Mr Noud denied bail prompting an outburst by Sa’o from the dock.

“Why am I going to jail for?” he exclaimed from the dock.

“What about my car?”

“F*****g bullshit.”

The matter was adjourned to next month.
