Spirit House closed for six weeks after kitchen destroyed

One of the Sunshine Coast’s most popular restaurants will be closed for six weeks after the kitchen was ransacked.

A popular southeast Queensland restaurant has had their kitchen “totally destroyed” forcing them to close their restaurant until mid-October.

Thai restaurant Spirit House on the Sunshine Coast suffered significant damage to their kitchen following a break in on early Monday morning.

“This one man wrecking ball has done an incredible amount of damage resulting in the restaurant being closed until mid October,” Spirit House wrote on social media.

Police were called to the venue around 6am to reports of a break in.

A 43-year-old man was located nearby and was charged with two counts of entering a premises and wilful damage.

He is expected to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The popular venue’s cooking school would continue to function, but the restaurant would take around six weeks for repairs.

Spirit house said red wine, computers and other electronic devices were destroyed before the kitchen was coated in “fire extinguisher dust.”

“In the meantime, we are contacting everyone with a booking and will let you know when repairs have been carried out and we can trade again.”

Lovers of the restaurant were shocked to hear of the lengthy closure.

“That’s devastating for your business, particularly with the disruptions and closures during the pandemic. I hope the work can be undertaken quickly and you’re back up and running earlier than expected,” one woman wrote.
