A Queensland father sickeningly exploited his own son, sending a naked image of the three-year-old boy to a woman in the United States who in turn sent him videos of her sexually abusing her own child.
The father’s disturbing crimes were uncovered by police who found messages he exchanged with the woman in Florida whom he encouraged to film herself abusing her 10-year-old son.
The 30-year-old man, who cannot be identified to protect the identity of his son, faced the Brisbane Supreme Court on Monday for sentence on a string of charges including making and transmitting child exploitation material.
Michael Bonasia, for the Crown, said the man landed on the radar of police officers in December 2020 when they began an investigation into the person behind two usernames on the media sharing platform Kik.
Their investigations led them to execute a search warrant at the man’s home in April 2021 where they discovered the disturbing messages he had exchanged with the Floridian woman.
Sickening messages sent between the two included an exchange about abusing children from as young as 18-months-old and the man sending ideas of how the woman should exploit her child.
He also offered suggestions for how to calm the 10-year-old boy in order to abuse him, including putting on his favourite television show.
In one particularly horrifying message, the man comments on how the child’s “little briefs would look better on the floor”.
“After being asked in response to the photo of his son, he was asked ‘did you get to touch him’ and the defendant replied ‘unfortunately I’m not alone’,” Mr Bonasia said.
The defendant went on to write: “As soon as I went to his mother started coming out half way. I just can’t wait, just me and him. I’ll show you what it looks like….”.
Mr Bonasia said the offending was not a victimless crime and that real children were harmed by the creation and distribution of child abuse material.
Defence barrister Robert Glenday said his client felt “guilty and ashamed” of his actions.
Mr Glenday said the defendant himself had been sexually abused as a child.
“It’s a tragic situation,” he said.
Justice Soraya Ryan will sentence the man later this week.
He has already spent 641 days in pre-sentence custody.
