Shooting victim’s mum Seanne McMahon tells of terrifying home invasion
A bayside woman has told of the terrifying moment her son was set upon by a group of home invaders, who beat him, shot him in the foot and dragged him around their home in a horror 30-minute ordeal.
The mother of a man who was shot by alleged robbers has shared details of the terrifying home invasion, as police continue to search for the offenders.
CCTV footage shows a group of alleged invaders, appearing to be armed with guns, climbing over a fence and gaining entry to the house on Mander Court in Wellington Point about 1am on Monday.
Homeowner Seanne McMahon said her 25-year-old son was playing PlayStation with his noise-cancelling earphones on in his room when the offenders broke in.
“There were five, I believe, that were in his room straight away. [They] just came in and shined flashlights in his eyes,” she said.
“By the time he realised what was happening, he was on the ground being beaten.
“It wasn’t too long after that, they took him around the house.”
Ms McMahon said her son was shot after he refused to give them the code to their room and their safe.
“He got shot in the foot, and then they continued to beat him around the house,” she said.
Ms McMahon said her son was “tortured” for half an hour, leaving his eyes swollen and shut, with his foot giving him pain.
The group allegedly stole several items from the property before fleeing the area in the family’s Dodge Ram utility truck, which had been parked at the property, and a BMW X5.
Ms McMahon said she asked the intruders to leave them alone as the safe they were aiming for only stored identification documents.
“We actually don’t have anything. They think we’re rich or something. They think we have money in the safe,” she said.
“They’re not going to get anything from us, and if they want to try, we’re going to be ready.
“The community is going to start taking matters into their own hands.”
Police said the incident was allegedly targeted, but no one was in custody.
Investigations are ongoing.
