Bizarre road rules that carry big fines

A 67-year-old truck driver has died after two road trains collided head-on north of Roma on the Carnarvon Highway on Friday night.

The crash occurred near Gunnewin, 80km north of Roma, about 10.15pm.

The two road trains were travelling in opposite directions when they collided, killing a 67-year-old man from Emerald, who was travelling north.

The other driver was not physically injured in the crash.

A Queensland police spokesman said the highway was closed in both directions for several hours.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

The fatal crash comes after a serious crash in the Maranoa region that took a woman’s life and injured 16 children on a school bus on Friday afternoon.
