Serial upskirter slammed for filming women

A man whose phone was found to have 18 ‘upskirt’ videos of different women he targeted at a Logan shopping centre has been chastised over his ‘appalling’ behaviour.

A serial ‘upskirter’ who filmed women in a southeast Queensland shopping centre has been sentenced to probation for what a female magistrate has described as ‘simply revolting’ behaviour.

Hayden Daniel Jappe, 26, pleaded guilty in Southport Magistrates Court to 18 charges of committing an indecent act in a public place.

The court heard he was arrested after his phone was seized by police for a similar offence in January last year.

They analysed his phone and found more 18 ‘upskirt videos’, some of the same woman, taken in Browns Plains Shopping Centre.

Police prosecutor Gavin Reece said it was ‘concerning behaviour’.

“He’s running around Browns Plains Shopping Centre taking these videos,” Mr Reece said.

Defence lawyer Rodney Keyte said Jappe was close to completing probation for the original offence, was seeking counselling and had ‘genuine remorse’.

Magistrate Kathleen Payne told Jappe that the crimes were ‘simply revolting’; and ‘appalling’ and showed ‘great disrespect to women’.

“Women in the community simply deserve more from men such as yourself,” she said.

Jappe replied: “I agree, Your Honour.”

He was sentenced to a further six months probation.
