A source close to the investigation where a beloved grandmother was stabbed in an alleged carjacking at a shopping centre says the account from her granddaughter who saw the incident left police “absolutely shaken”.
Vyleen White was killed on Saturday evening after she was stabbed at Town Square Redbank Plains in front of her six-year-old granddaughter.
The Australian reported a source close to the investigation said the account from the little girl has left police “absolutely shaken”.
The Australian said the highly articulate account of the granddaughter shook police who were experienced in dealing with victims of crime.
Five teens have been charged in relation to the incident – one with murder, stealing and unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and four with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
The 16-year-old boy accused of murder had been on bail for multiple armed robbery offences at the time.
Vyleen’s daughter, Danice White, told The Courier-Mail the granddaughter was close with her grandmother, because they lived together and often went shopping together.
After the incident the girl ran screaming for help and found an off duty doctor.
“I have a very traumatised six-year-old niece, she was up here every day spending time with mum,” Ms White said.
Another one of Vyleen’s daughters, Cindy Micallef, said the incident was difficult on the little girl.
“The young child involved is struggling but we’re trying to keep her mind off it, just doing a lot of play stuff,” she said.
“I don’t have a mum anymore, I have the memories of my mum. I was only talking to her on the Saturday, I got a recipe from her and we were chatting about the recipe, and this is only about an hour and half before it happened.
“You don’t think your mum’s going to go to the shop and never come home.”
