A second man has been charged with attempted murder after a man was shot multiple times at a northside home last month.
William Mea Morea, 23, made a bail application at Brisbane Arrest Court on Wednesday, charged with attempted murder and arson relating to a shooting incident at Bellmere on August 29.
His brother Edward Harold Morea faced court last week in relation to the same incident.
Police will allege the brothers and two other men attended a Bellmere residence in the early hours of morning on August 29, armed with two firearms and a sledgehammer.
It’s alleged the men kicked down the door and shot a man in his left shoulder and back, piercing through his lung, at approximately 1.15am.
Magistrate Peter Saggers said the man underwent “lifesaving surgery” at Caboolture Hospital following the “extremely serious” incident.
The court heard there were two vehicles allegedly involved in the incident – one of which had been found burned at a location in MacKenzie, containing a sledgehammer head and shotgun shells.
William Morea was found with the other vehicle, a white Hyundai registered to him, upon his arrest at a Logan address on Tuesday, September 17.
The court was told that Morea’s vehicle was found containing a sledgehammer and jerry cans.
Upon searching Morea’s phone, police uncovered the offence address typed into his maps application, Mr Saggers noted.
The court heard Morea’s phone location data had also put him in the same areas at the same times where CCTV footage had placed the suspect cars in the lead up to and following the incident.
Defence lawyer Mr Ransom said the evidence against his client was circumstantial, along with the witness descriptions of the offenders sounding like “islanders”
He said Morea, who is of Papua New Guinea descent, had only one entry on his criminal history for supplying drugs in 2021.
Mr Ransom said the allegations were contested at this time. Neither brother has entered any pleas.
Mr Ransom said bail conditions could appropriately mitigate any risks his client posed.
But Mr Saggers said he was not persuaded to grant Morea bail, paying particular note to the offence address being found in Morea’s maps app.
The matter was adjourned to September 20 at Caboolture Magistrates Court, on which date Edward Morea is also scheduled for mention.
Both brothers are remanded in custody and charged with attempted murder, arson, unlawful possession of a category A weapon, and enter dwelling with intent at night by break.
William Morea is also charged with possessing dangerous drugs and possessing tainted property.
