The daughter of a Christian minister violently dragged a female bartender by the ponytail for several metres and assaulted another, ending a boozy night.

Satelite Tuifao, 22, was ordered to pay compensation to the staff of popular Brisbane bar, Defiant Duck, after pleading guilty in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Tuifao was charged with common assault and assault occasioning bodily harm.

After a long night of drinking, Defiant Duck staff told Tuifao and her group of friends, who were at the bar from until about 1am, to leave the premises.

Tuifao claims it was after several altercations over poor service that staff told the group to “just f***ing go home” twice, sparking the violent outburst.

The female bartender attempted to flee the group by running inside, Tuifao then grabbed her and pushed her to the ground, hitting a male employee in the face during the pursuit.

She then reached down, grabbed the victim’s ponytail, and violently dragged her several metres across the floor while punching her in the body.

Members of Tuifao’s own group then pulled her from the venue.

Magistrate Suzette Coates said the “loutish drunken behaviour” had brought great shame to the defendant’s family.

“He’s the minister of a local congregation and here she is,” Magistrate Coates said.

“This is a very big shame for the family that she’s come to court,” she said.

“Bar staff don’t get a lot of money, they’re one of the lowest-paid people, and if there’s a problem with service it’s usually because they’re overworked and underpaid.”

Tuifao’s father, Petaia Tuifao, was present in support of his daughter, tendering a letter to the court speaking of his deep disappointment and noting the behaviour was out of character.

Mr Tuifao is the minister of the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa Southside.

Tuifao was ordered to pay a total of $700 in compensation to the pair as well as a $750 fine, no conviction was recorded.
