Rogue teens gone wild: 13 kids steal cars in just five days

In a shocking indication of how out-of-control youth crime is, 13 kids – the youngest aged just 12 – have been involved in numerous car thefts across the Gold Coast within just five days.

Police have revealed more than a dozen juveniles have allegedly been involved in the thefts of numerous cars on the Gold Coast in under the last week.

Numbers provided by police reveal a total of 13 kids have been charged over incidents in relation to the stealing of cars on the Gold Coast within the last five days.

The most serious incident resulted in five teens being charged over the alleged theft of a Ford Ranger in Miami earlier this week, after police were forced to deploy tyre spikes in a bid to stop the rogue vehicle.

According to police the group of five teens – two 15-year-old girls; two 14-year-old boys; and a 12-year-old boy, allegedly gained access to a Chainey Ave home about 1.30am on Monday.

The group are accused of stealing a set of car keys to steal the car, before less than 30 minutes later, the Ford Ranger was spotted on a nearby road.

“At 1.50am the stolen vehicle was observed in Surfers Paradise on Orchid Ave,” a statement from the Queensland Police Service said.

“A tyre deflation device was successfully deployed at Ferny Ave with the vehicle continuing on eventually being abandoned at Lennie Ave at Main Beach.”

Within about 30 minutes, police located all five teens, who were each charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle. 

The 12-year-old boy was also charged with burglary while a 14-year-old boy was hit with the extra charges of unlawful possession of suspected stolen property and burglary. 

One of the 15-year-old girls was also slapped with the additional charges of unlawful possession of suspected stolen property.

In an unrelated incident overnight, two teenagers have been charged after they allegedly drove a stolen car down the wrong side of the road in the Gold Coast’s Pacific Pines.

Police say they witnessed the car- which was being driven with a blown tyre- allegedly travelling down the wrong side of the road along Shoalhaven Ave about 8.15pm Tuesday.

The Volkswagen Passat was allegedly stolen from a home in Varsity Lakes earlier this week.

According to police, officers did not pursue the car and no stingers were used when officers came across the vehicle during a routine patrol of the area.

They originally lost sight of the car, before later locating it abandoned outside a home on Toohey St.

Police located the duo inside.

The boy was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, while the girl has been charged with receiving tainted property.

While on Friday, a 12-year-old boy was charged in relation to the alleged theft of a stolen car, that he, along with three other teens are accused of crashing and abandoning on the side of a road in Gaven.

According to police, the four juveniles- a 12-year-old boy; two 13-year-old boys; and a 15-year-old girl, allegedly stole the Toyota Camry from a Tugun home on October 19, before later allegedly crashing it at an intersection at Gaven about 4.20am Friday.

Members of the public told police they saw the four youths flee from the crashed vehicle, before the group were located by officers a short time later.

The group have been charged with various offences including burglary and commit indictable offence, driving of motor vehicle without a driver's licence never held licence and unlawful use of motor vehicle.

The residents of a Southport home have been burgled out of two of their cars, after a Kia Stinger and a Toyota Prado were allegedly stolen from their home on Tuesday.

Police say the Kia, which was damaged and appeared to have been in a crash, was parked in a dangerous position on the roadway in Ormeau.

At least one juvenile was seen by a member of the public fleeing from the car, while a 17-year-old boy was later located and charged with burglary and commit indictable offence.

He was also charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
