A man already facing an attempted murder charge for allegedly being a getaway driver in a Logan gang shooting last year, has pleaded guilty to fresh charges.

Riad Naaman, 24, was sentenced on Monday for twice breaching his Supreme Court bail, which is related to the attempted murder charge, and giving police a false name.

Naaman was brought up from the cells into Brisbane Arrests Court for the proceeding, dressed in green watchhouse clothes.

The court heard police officers stopped and searched Naaman and others in a hotel room at The Star Casino in the new Queen’s Wharf precinct around 10.20pm on Saturday.

By being there, he was in breach of his 9pm curfew – one of the conditions imposed by the Supreme Court when granting him bail on the attempted murder charge.

When questioned by police, it is alleged he twice gave his first name as “Khidr” – resulting in him being charged with contravening a police direction.

The court heard Naaman’s second breach of bail charge arose from police officers doing a curfew check at his Yarrabilba address around 4.15am on August 4, and he wasn’t home.

Lawyer Torik Dib, representing Naaman, said his client had been on “strict bail conditions” for the past year and had successfully reported to police as required 238 times.

Mr Dib said his client had pleaded guilty to these three offences at the earliest opportunity and asked for a $500-$600 fine as punishment.

Magistrate Annette Hennessy said she noted the circumstances of Naaman’s offending before convicting and fining him $800.

The case against Naaman over the alleged gang shooting on Nevilles St in the Logan suburb of Underwood on July 13, 2023 is ongoing in Brisbane Magistrates Court, awaiting a committal hearing to be set.

Police allege he was the driver of a Toyota HiLux involved in the shooting, and he allegedly suffered a gunshot wound to the ankle during the incident.

It is alleged that shots were fired from a Toyota HiLux at a man in a carpark, before the man pulled out a gun himself and returned fire.

At the time, police believed the alleged gang shooting may have been connected to rival middle eastern crime syndicates.
