Police have been searching a rural property for any sign of a Queensland mother who vanished two weeks ago while her family was away visiting relatives.

38,000 Aussies are reported missing every year

Police have been searching a rural property for any sign of a Queensland mother who vanished two weeks ago while her family was away visiting relatives.

Rene Latimore, 31, was last seen at the Ilbilbie property she shares with her father, stepmother and her 14-year-old son around August 8 or 9.

Police say they have serious concerns for her safety given she has not accessed her bank accounts, social media or used her phone in that time.

Mackay District Detective Inspector Tom Armitt said a search of the 270 hectare property had failed to find any trace of her.

“We’re keeping an open mind but there’s a number of lines of inquiry as to (where there is) something suspicious,” he said.

Det Insp Armitt said Ms Latimore’s father, stepmother and son left to visit family in nearby Mackay around August 8, leaving her at the Ilbilbie property.

“When they returned, she wasn’t there,” he said.

“Originally they thought that she was off doing other things or engaging in other activities. And then around the 18th they made a decision to report her missing because they could not get in contact with her, they had not heard anything from her and hadn’t seen any sort of social media updates from her.”

He said police had spent recent days visiting neighbouring properties trying to gain a picture of whether any vehicles had come and gone from the Latimore home.

Det Insp Armitt said the last sighting of Ms Latimore was around August 9 when other family members dropped in to see her briefly at the Schirmers Rd address.

“Obviously we’ve made inquiries to find out whether she’s made any banking transactions or any social media posts or any sort of telephone calls and there’s nothing from about the 9th - so we’re obviously holding some fears for her safety and her welfare,” he said.

“We want to … speak to anyone who has had recent contact with her - including obviously beforehand if she’d disclosed or discussed any plans or movements or given any indication that she would be away for this period of time.”
