Rani Paige Lowry indicted over crash with ex Greens MP Amy MacMahon

A woman who allegedly crashed into the car of a Queensland MP has been indicted on an aggravated charge over the collision.

A woman who allegedly crashed into the car of a Queensland MP has been indicted on an aggravated charge over the collision.

Rani Paige Lowry was initially charged with dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm to then-Greens MP Amy MacMahon in Kangaroo Point in February 2024.

However when the indictment was presented last week in Brisbane’s District Court it carried a circumstance of aggravation alleging Lowry was adversely affected by an intoxicating substance at the time.

Police have alleged Lowry, 26, was driving southbound along Main Street in Kangaroo Point about 6.30pm on February 12 when she ran a red light as Dr MacMahon was turning right out of Baines Road.

Lowry’s Hyundai i30 collided with Dr MacMahon’s Toyota Prius in a confronting crash caught on CCTV.

Dr MacMahon was rushed to Princess Alexandra Hospital where she remained for a number of weeks.

She later revealed she had suffered a carotid dissection in her neck but there were no fractures, no broken bones, and no open wounds

Dr MacMahon has expressed gratitude that she was not more seriously injured. She lost her seat of South Brisbane at the October state election.

Lowry, of Moorooka, was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital with minor injuries after the crash.

She remains on bail and is yet to enter a plea.

Her matter is next listed for mention on February 26.
