A Queensland teenager has been charged with preparing an act of terrorism.
It was alleged the teenager was attempting to purchase firearms online and was targeting a school on Brisbane’s northside.
The teenager was charged by the Queensland Joint Counter-Terrorism Team with one count of acts done in preparation for, or planning, terrorist acts.
There was no current threat to public safety.
The boy, 16, appeared in the Brisbane Childrens Court on August 17, which was first reported by The Courier-Mail.
His lawyer Michael Cridland submitted at the time that his client had “level two autism”.
“In this matter, which involves a 16-year-old young person, who I am told and without challenge accept that suffers particular vulnerability in terms of autism, there is a risk of prejudice to him,” the court heard.
The investigation by the Australian Federal Police and Queensland Police is ongoing.
