A truck driver has been fined more than $4000 for falsifying his Covid test results in a bid to cross the Queensland border.
Police said the 39-year-old man was attempting to drive a semi-trailer through the Gold Coast Heavy Vehicle check point when he showed the false documents to officers about 11am on Saturday.
“Our officers quickly established that the testing certification was false and he was issued with $4,135 fine,” acting chief superintendent Rhys Wildman said.
Police confirmed the driver was not Covid-positive.
A/ Chief Supt Wildman warned truck and freight drivers not to falsify Covid test results.
“We are reinforcing to everyone coming into Queensland that you have to abide by the chief health officer’s directions and there are obviously penalties in place for giving false documents,” he said.
A/ Chief Supt Wildman stressed that it was only a “very small portion of vehicles doing the wrong thing”.
On Monday, 10,000 vehicles crossed over through the Gold Coast Heavy Vehicle checkpoint and only 74 had to be turned away.
