Qld crime crisis: What you said about the issue

Even the Police Commissioner concedes the challenge of Queensland’s crime crisis is growing – leading to anger and confusion across the state.

“We can’t arrest our way out.”

Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll’s stunning admission about the answer to Queensland’s crime crisis left many concerned. Others are just puzzled.

From laying the blame on politicians, to targeting parents and the system, readers have offered a passionate and wide array of views on the subject.

Even Ms Carroll couldn’t pinpoint the solution.

“That is the concern,” she said.

“People say this cohort don’t respect (police), but this cohort don’t respect anyone.

“It’s not just the police, it’s how they treat the public, it’s how they treat each other.”

A lack of severe consequences as well as “confusing” messaging from the government on crime issues after it relaxed its stance on ice, heroin and cocaine usage to a controversial three-strike policy have also been blamed for the alarming trend.

Here is what you had to say on the topic.

Politicians need to have some guts and do something about this instead of worrying people might not vote for them if they do something. Have a guess what the ones committing the crimes don’t vote anyway!!! Human Rights Commission have set these twits up to fail with their laws protecting them.

There’s crime all over the country. The country has gone backwards over the last 10 years!..........oh gee, I just realised something, who was running the country for 9 of the last 10 years? Anyone got any clues?

My solution to the teen criminal problem is simple, let their first experience of police custody or jail be a very unpleasant one. No TV or games, small cells, very basic food and little contact with other criminals. Make it so unpleasant that they decide it’s not for them, they’d rather stay out of trouble.
