Making calls to a person he was banned from contacting has landed a prisoner from Maryborough Correctional Centre before court.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to one count of breaching a domestic violence order when he faced Maryborough Magistrates Court.

The court heard the man was not allowed to call the victim after an order was put in place ordering no contact.

But on March 15, the man completed a form for the correction service which included different numbers, including two connected to the aggrieved, bringing his offending to light as it breached the no contact condition of the order.

Defence lawyer Morgan Harris said while behind bars the man had completed a positive future course, including domestic violence re-education and addressing drug and alcohol abuse.

He was also completing a business course.

There had been no threats of violence or wilful damage during the calls, Mr Harris said.

Magistrate Michael Bice said while there was no suggestion of violence or threats, it was still a breach of the order and was still serious.

But he said it was promising to hear the man had completed those courses while behind bars.

The man was sentenced to three months in prison, suspended for 18 months.

A conviction was recorded.
