Police still hunting woman who escaped from Sofitel Broadbeach hotel quarantine

Police say a woman who did a runner from Gold Coast hotel quarantine on Wednesday had earlier faced court on a number of serious charges. She is still on the loose.

A woman who dramatically broke out of hotel quarantine on the Gold Coast by scaling a balcony was facing serious criminal charges before she escaped, police say

The woman, 24, who had travelled from New South Wales, escaped the Sofitel Hotel at Broadbeach on Wednesday after forcing open a locked balcony door.

She had faced Southport Magistrates Court on Monday on charges including producing and possessing dangerous drugs and driving while disqualified and was ordered into quarantine that same day.

She had tested negative for Covid-19.

Police were still hunting her on Thursday.

“We’re actively searching for her,” Gold Coast police acting chief superintendent Rhys Wildman said.
