A 29-year-old man has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and affray after a terrifying fight involving a knife in a quiet westside street.
The man will face Brisbane Magistrates Court on July 28 in relation to the incident, which started about 11.45am on Wednesday (June 30) at Illowra St in The Gap.
One person was rushed to Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital with serious chest wounds after neighbours said an occupant of the house waved a 30cm kitchen knife at a man.
They said they saw the knife being pushed at the man, breaking its blade, although it did not appear to have been an intentional stabbing.
On Thursday morning, an occupant of the house, Declan, told how he saw a man called “Nick’’, who he said was well known in the area, approach and allegedly start an argument.
Declan said two teenage boys, aged about 16, came out of the house before the fight spilled across the street.
However Declan said he did not see a knife and did not know why the man had allegedly confronted the occupants.
“It’s not right that someone comes and attacks two young guys,’’ he alleged.
“He kicked them in the head. They were unconscious.’’
The teenage boys received minor injuries, including a cut lip, and were both back at the house today. A mother with a disabled child, who is a permanent resident at the house, also received minor arm injuries, according to Declan.
The teens declined to comment to Westside News.
Six police vehicles and two ambulances converged on the scene about five minutes after terrified neighbours called for help.
“I just came back form the shops and saw it,” a neighbour said.
“It all happened so quick.
“It was three guys against one guy, one jumped the fence and then the fight moved across the road.”
Another neighbour who moved to the area only last year said residents had endured constant loud music “all day and night”.
They said police had been called many times over the noise and fights.
“Their dog is quite aggressive and always escaping,” the neighbour said.
“I asked them about it and one of them was hanging off the fence, very aggressively, and shouting at me.
“We have reported the dog to Council many times.”
“This is not the sort of thing you expect in The Gap, it’s a nice quiet place, all our other neighbours are lovely.”
Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed one person had been taken to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with a chest wound. They were in a serious but stable condition on Wednesday night.
QAS confirmed two young men were transported to hospital with minor injuries, although not before one abused ambulance officers and shouted.
Declan claimed one of them had a mental illness and had become distressed at being filmed by a TV crew while being helped into the ambulance.
