Police promotions suspended amid government probe into service

Promotions of senior police officers have been put on hold after the state government ordered a review into the structure and operations of the Queensland Police Service.

Promotions of senior police officers have been put on hold after the state government ordered a review into the structure and operations of the Queensland Police Service.

Police Minister Dan Purdie has ordered a new independent review to consider the work of the stretched police service.

It is understood the investigation will also review how the work of the Queensland Police Service has expanded to cover the responsibilities of other government agencies.

The promotion of senior officers has been paused while the review, which will be led by former Detective Superintendent Mark Ainsworth and former Deputy Commissioners Brett Pointing and Ross Barnett.

The terms of reference of the review have not yet been released.

Mr Purdie’s office did not respond to a request for comment.
