A Queensland pharmacist accused of trying to kill his wife and mother-in-law by allegedly setting fire to their home while the women were inside has been suspended from his profession for an unspecified period.

Curtis Shea Mickan, 34, who is registered as a pharmacist in the Queensland town of Murgon in the South Burnett region, 270km north-west of Brisbane, was suspended by the state’s Health Ombudsman on June 17.

The suspension means he is prohibited from practising as a pharmacist for the duration of the suspension.

Mickan was previously the owner of the Murgon Amcal Pharmacy.

The Health Ombudsman’s suspension will be in place until the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal sets the decision aside or the Health Ombudsman revokes the suspension.

Last month he was charged with eight offences including two counts of attempted murder and two counts of the domestic violence offence of arson after he allegedly set fire to his Wooloowin home with his wife and mother-in-law inside early in the morning of May 16.

The women escaped the house fire without injury.

Mickan appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court last month but did not apply for bail so he remains behind bars on remand.

The house fire is alleged to have occurred just hours after police arrested him at the Wooloowin house and took him to the Brisbane Watch House but released him without charge on “strict conditions” following what police described as a “high level” disturbance.
