A dramatic police chase through a busy Brisbane parklands precinct has led to the seizure of $100k in cash, drugs and two people being charged with trafficking.
Construction workers and morning joggers had a frontrow seat to the pair’s sensational arrest in the South Bank Parklands about 8.50am on Wednesday morning.
Police said the pair, a 38-year-old Inala man and 33-year-old woman from Collingwood Park, were riding a motorbike along Grey St when officers tried to pull then over for a routine traffic stop.
Officers in an ATV then chased the motorbike as it allegedly sped away, riding into the parklands through fencing and past workers and pedestrians.
Body-cam footage showed the moment the rider was tackled to the ground.
Officers in the ATV then chase the woman, who was caught a short time later.
Police said they found $100,000 cash in vacuum sealed bags, methylamphetamine and multiple mobile phones.
“This is why they’re running,” one police officer can be heard saying as he pulls out a clipseal bag filled with cash.
“That’s a lot of cash.”
The pair were both charged with trafficking dangerous drugs, receiving or possessing property obtained from trafficking, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing anything for use in commission of crime and possess property suspected of having been used in the commission of crime.
The man was also charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle and failing to comply with requirement to stop vehicle.
Both have been refused police bail and are due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday.
