Operation Whiskey Logan sees 400 charged with 900 offences in Ipswich and Logan

Top cops have celebrated the success of a blitz on crime in the state’s southeast, which saw more than 400 people charged including 72 juveniles. WATCH THE VIDEO

More than 400 people including 72 juveniles have been charged with 895 offences following a police blitz in South East Queensland.

Operation Whiskey Legion, which launched on April 2, has seen 357 adults arrested on 643 offences and 72 juveniles arrested on 252 offences in Ipswich and Logan.

Acting Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said the goal of the operation was to be “front-footed”.

While Youth Crime Acting Assistant Commissioner Andrew Massingham said he was “buoyed” by the number of juvenile offenders dealt with during the operation.

“The operation is not only targeting obviously adults that are causing the most harm to our community but also that juvenile component or element that operate with those adults or operate independent of those adults,” he said.

“I’m very buoyed by those statistics. I think as the operation gathers momentum we will tend to see a huge number of juveniles over and above Taskforce Guardian and Operation Unison now be before the courts for serious offences.”

Mr Massingham said the offences in Logan and Ipswich included armed robbery in company, break and enters as well as carjackings and serious breaches of bail.

An Ipswich teenager who allegedly stole a woman’s handbag while she was shopping at Springfield Central was among those charged as part of the high-visibility operation.
