The brother of an Olympic silver medallist has pleaded guilty to attempting to import commercial quantities of cocaine into Australia – after successfully overturning his conviction for the exact same charge.
Dru Anthony Baggaley, younger brother of Olympic kayaker Nathan Baggaley, faced Brisbane Supreme Court on Wednesday morning where he pleaded guilty to attempting to import a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug (cocaine) between December 16, 2017 and August 2, 2018 at Coolangatta.
Mr Baggaley had previously pleaded not guilty to the same charge in 2021 and was found guilty at trial.
His 2021 trial heard he had been involved in a failed plot to smuggle $200 million worth of cocaine into Australia.
Mr Baggaley was handed a 28-year jail term, but the conviction was set aside following a successful appeal.
Prior to pleading guilty, Mr Baggaley had been expected to stand trial once again later this month alongside his brother Nathan.
The court heard today that Nathan Baggaley remains listed for trial later this month.
He is also charged with attempting to import a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug.
He has not entered any pleas and is scheduled for mention on October 17.
Dru Baggaley was remanded in custody for a sentence date yet to be set.
