NQ police charge five teenagers with a string of offences after car stolen

Five teens have been charged with a string of offences after members of the public allegedly spotted them driving a stolen car in Queensland’s north.

Five teenagers have been charged with a string of offences after they were confronted while allegedly driving a stolen car in North Queensland by members of the public.

Queensland Police will allege that a Mazda CX-3 station wagon was stolen from a Cairns North address on Wednesday before reports were received at 3.40pm on Thursday, the car was seen stopped in traffic on Scott Street at Bungalow.

Police will also alleged that two members of the public tried to remove the teens from the stolen car, and that a scuffle occurred before all five fled the scene.

Police arrived on scene a short time later, after which all five juveniles were taken into custody thanks to information provided by the members of the public.

A 17-year-old Westcourt boy has been charged with ten counts of stealing, five counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, four counts of unlicensed driving and one count each of possession of a knife in a public place, fraud and burglary.

A 15-year-old Bentley Park boy has been charged with three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of unlicensed driving and stealing.

Both will appear in the Cairns Children’s Court on Friday.

A 15-year-old Edmonton boy has been charged with six counts each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and burglary, two counts of unlicensed driving and one count of stealing.

A 16-year-old Edmonton boy has been charged with four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of burglary, assault, receiving tainted property and stealing.

Both will appear in the Cairns Childrens Court on June 29.

A 16-year-old Gordonvale boy will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act for one count of unlawful use or a motor vehicle.
