Raped-accused Queensland wedding singer Daniel Stoneman faces new charges

Police hold fears that there maybe more alleged victims of a Queensland musician and wedding singer who is facing 34 charges including rape and sexual assault.

Police have charged a Queensland wedding singer with a further 34 offences following an extensive investigation. 

Police allege the 34-year-old Logan man - identified as musician Daniel James Stoneman - utilised a number of dating applications and social media platforms to connect with women in the Brisbane and Gold Coast areas between 2019 and 2023, before allegedly committing offences against at least nine women.

Operation Whiskey Midfields was established in December 2023, following a report received by police. A search warrant was executed at a Logan address in March 2024, where a number of devices were seized for analysis.

The 34-year-old local was charged with 18 sexual assault and domestic violence related offences in March and April.

Following further analysis and investigation, the man has today been charged with a further 34 offences including 24 counts of distributing intimate images, three counts of rape and one count each of attempt to commit rape, choking in a domestic setting, recordings in beach of privacy, unlawful stalking and contravene domestic violence order.

He is expected to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on May 27.

Detective Senior Constable Katherine McDonald from the Sexual Crime Unit said investigators believe there are furtheralleged victim -survivors in the community who may be able to assist with the investigation.

“We have uncovered multiple intimate images and videos where the identity of the person depicted is unknown and we are urging anyone who had contact with this man to come forward to police,” Detective Senior Constable McDonald said.

“We understand there are many reactions to experiencing sexual violence and deciding to make a report is a personal decision which can be difficult and confronting.

“If you have experienced sexual violence, you are not alone and it is not your fault.

“We urge anyone who has information which can assist this investigation to come forward and contact police.”

The Queensland Police Service is committed to providing a timely and professional response to supporting victim-survivors of sexual violence and other trauma. 

A variety of reporting options are available aimed at increasing accessibility and options to support people in coming forward.Alternative Reporting Options (ARO) provide victim survivors with an online alternative for reporting sexual assault.

ARO gives the victim survivor the opportunity to provide police with the circumstances of their assault, with the option of remaining anonymous.

Stoneman had previously appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court earlier in the year.

The Shailer Park man, who is in custody, was not required to appear in court.

No pleas have been entered.

He has performed gigs at Coorparoo Square, the Royal George Hotel, Surf Club Coolangatta, North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Supporters Club and the Wickham.

According to a biography on his website he covers a vast range of genres including pop, R&B/Motown, classic rock, funk, blues, top 40 and the classics.

“His ability to captivate an audience and get a room dancing is a talent that will long be remembered,” the biography wrote.

Stoneman has performed many events from weddings or crowds of more than 300 people.

He charges $2000 to $3000 to sing at weddings, his online profile states.
