Elsa Pataky is one of the high-profile figures to send support after separate horror crashes landed two Queensland motocross riders in hospital together.

Taylor Peet and Corey Semenowicz were riding on different tracks hundreds of kilometres apart on June 29 when they each suffered serious spinal injuries in horrific falls that have left them paralysed from the chest down.

They are now receiving treatment just metres apart in Queensland Health’s Spinal Injuries Unit at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, and are encouraging each other as they embark on their journeys to recovery.

Pataky, actor and wife of fellow Hollywood star Chris Hemsworth, reached out to Peet on social media with the message: “Hoping you get better soon. Sending lots of love.”

The Hemsworths are known to be a keen dirt biking and motocross family, often sharing their love of the sport on social media.

Peet’s former employer, fitness influencer Ashy Bines, also shared her support: “We are right behind you all the way. We love and adore you, always inspired by you and here for anything you need.”

The crashes join a growing list of serious moto accidents this year, including those which have claimed the lives of Gold Coast competitors Jayden “Jayo” Archer and Corey “Magoo” Whittington, while talented Queensland teen Taylah McCutcheon has just returned to the track five months after a serious crash which also left her in the intensive care ward.

Peet, founder of the Girls Can Ride moto group and the Throttle Girls clothing label, was riding in a practice session at a private property at Lower Tenthill in the Lockyer Valley when she was sent flying over the handlebars after botching a landing, suffering a punctured lung, broken wrists and damage to her spinal cord, leaving her with no feeling from her torso down.

She was flown to the PA hospital by the Queensland government’s Rescue 500 helicopter before undergoing major surgery.

She took to Instagram to describe “the day that changed my life” and thanked her family and friends for their support, along with the kind words of strangers as she faces an uncertain future.

“The past week has been the most mentally and physically challenging time of my life,” she wrote.

“(But) The amount of positive messages and wanting to help I have received off you has been amazing.”

She also thanked the rescue team and the nurses and doctors helping in her treatment and recovery.

A GoFundMe page set up to raise money for her recovery effort has so far raised more than $50,000.

Semenowicz, a well-known and decorated champion rider, has been left with no movement or feeling from the chest down after his stack at a property in northern NSW, which saw him suffer several broken ribs, compound fractures to his arm and wrist and serious spinal injuries.

He was flown to Brisbane by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

Taking to his Instagram page, he said he was grateful not to be a quadriplegic or even dead after the accident.

“I have had some big crashes in my time (but) nothing like this,” he said.

“I was conscious (but) could not feel my legs.

“I hope no one ever has to experience that.”

He paid tribute to his partner Sarah for being his “rock” and “angel”.

“You have been by my side since the moment of my accident and comforted me through all my fears,” he wrote.

Peet was one of many to reach out with words of support, from her bed in the same hospital ward.

“Praying for you mate and a couple of beds apart,” she wrote on his Instagram page.

“You’ve got a beautiful support crew who will stop at nothing to help you on this hurdle.

“Here to go through this with you.”

Semenowicz also took to Peet’s Instagram to share a message of support: “Best attitude. Let’s get this.”
