A Gold Coast nurse has been banned from having any direct clinical contact with patients by the healthcare watchdog after they took immediate registration action.
Gavin Sean Bevins, from Robina, has most recently been working at Robina Hospital, the sixth largest hospital in Queensland, as a mental health nurse.
In an announcement dated March 16, the state’ health ombudsman slapped Mr Bevins with conditions on his registration effective immediately, they said in a statement posted on their website.
He must not practise in any role requiring direct clinical patient contact, including supervision of other medical staff engaged in direct clinical contact.
He can only use his professional knowledge to practise in management, administration, education, research, advisory, regulatory or policy development.
According to the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency website Mr Bevins is an enrolled nurse and he graduated with a certificate IV in nursing at NSW Tafe in 2007.
The strict conditions will remain on Mr Bevins’ registration until the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal sets the decision aside or the health ombudsman removes them.
