Men charged with murder over Carindale stabbing face court

The lawyer for one of the men charged with murder over the death of a man in Brisbane’s east has denied any of those allegedly involved have anything to do with the so-called 13 Kings gang.

Two men have appeared in court charged with the murder over the stabbing death of Levi Johnson, who died in the street in Brisbane’s east on Monday.

Mr Johnson was ambushed in the carpark of Goodlife gym by a group of four men travelling in two separate vehicles on Monday afternoon.

The men allegedly smashed his windscreen with a crowbar, and when he escaped through the passenger door and ran across the road, two of the men chased him down.

The 23-year-old was stabbed multiple times and left to die in the street.

Stuart Galloway and Luke Thomas Moore, both 34, had their cases mentioned briefly in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday morning after being arrested in separate operations.

Galloway was charged with murder, after he was arrested in bushland near the stabbing on Monday.

Moore, who was arrested at a Birkdale address on Wednesday afternoon, is also charged with murder, as well as possessing dangerous drugs, unlawful possession of a weapon and contravening an order regarding providing access to an electronic device.

The men were not required to appear and there was no application for bail as a magistrate cannot release a defendant charged with murder.

Both men were remanded in custody with their matters adjourned to October 4.

Outside court lawyers Andrew Owens, for Galloway, and Michael Gatenby, for Moore, said their clients would be contesting the charges.

“The difficulty we have at the moment is that the police have failed to identify what act or omission (Moore’s) done,” Mr Gatenby said.

“So we will need to get some further particulars but at the moment you wouldn’t have any idea what it is my client’s alleged to have done.”

Mr Gatenby said his client was not a member of the so-called 13 Kings gang.

“I don’t believe that any of the four men have claimed to be a member of that organisation,” he said.

“My client certainly doesn’t know what that assertion’s come from.”

Mr Gatenby indicated he would be applying for bail for Moore in the Supreme Court at a later date.
