The cases of four teens charged over a fatal crash in Wynnum on Monday will not be open to the public after a magistrate expressed concerns for their mental health.

Magistrate Anne Thacker on Tuesday refused an application for media to cover the case on the grounds that the absence of the evidence could provide adverse attention to the children that would be likely detrimental to them.

Michael Warburton died in hospital after the Wynnum crash.

“Especially given the defence submission that at least some of the children come from a smaller community within Brisbane suburbs. I’m particularly concerned by the submissions that there are mental issues present for some of the children,” she said.

It will be alleged that 59-year-old Hemmant man, Michael Warburton, was riding home on a Vespa on Monday morning when a stolen car, allegedly driven by a 15-year-old Wynnum teen, crossed to the wrong side of the road and mowed him down in Wynnum West.

Mr Warburton died of his injuries later that night at Princess Alexandra Hospital.

On Monday night, police charged the alleged driver of the car, 15, with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, unlawful use, burglary, fail to remain at scene of a crash and unlicensed driving.

The female passenger, 16, has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and unlawful use of motor vehicle.

A 15-year-old Wynnum West girl has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, wilful damage and two counts each of stealing and obstruct police.

A 15-year-old Alexandra Hills boy has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
