A Brisbane schoolboy has died in hospital, more than a week after he was involved in a serious crash in Brisbane’s northwest.
The 17-year-old, who was in Year 12 at Marist College Ashgrove, was travelling with two classmates from the school on Lanita Rd, Ferny Grove about 7pm on Sunday, July 9.
It is understood the boys were driving to a friend’s house in a Toyota Aurion when the driver lost control of the vehicle and the car plunged several metres down an embankment.
The Year 12 student sustained serious head injuries, with police confirming he has since sadly died in hospital.
It is understood the 17-year-old was a front-seat passenger in the car.
Two other 17-year-old boys who were occupants in the car at the time were both taken to hospital in stable conditions.
Marist Head of College Michael Newman confirmed the boy’s death in a message sent to parents and students.
“It is with a heavy heart and much sadness that I write to inform you that a Year 12 student
who is a much loved and valued member of our College, passed away after the car accident
last week,” he wrote.
“At this most difficult time, the continued prayers and support for him and his family
are appreciated.
“This morning the College gathered to pray and has arranged for students
affected to access support and counselling throughout the day.”
Police continue to appeal for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam vision from the area to come forward.
The Forensic Crash Unit and Inner West Child Protection and Investigation Unit are investigating the cause of the crash.
