Manhunt continues after Hervey Bay carjacking

Almost two weeks after a 17-year-old boy’s ute was stolen at gunpoint in Hervey Bay, police have yet to arrest or charge anybody.

The search is continuing for a man who held a teenager at gunpoint during a carjacking in Hervey Bay on April 15, 2023.

About 8.10pm, a 17-year-old was sitting in his ute in a carpark along the Esplanade at Torquay when he was approached by a man armed with what appeared to be a firearm.

The man demanded the boy get out of the vehicle.

He complied and was not physically injured.

The man then got into the vehicle, a white 2005 Toyota HiLux dual cab without registration plates, and drove west on Freshwater Street.

About 9pm, the same vehicle was seen leaving a shopping centre car park in Pialba along Stirling Drive.

It crashed into another vehicle that was stopped at red traffic lights before turning left toward Beach Road.

The driver of the other vehicle was not physically injured.

About 9.30pm, police tried to stop the ute on Pialba-Burrum Heads Road in Toogoom, but the driver evaded officers.

Anyone with information or anyone who has recently sighted the vehicle or knows of its whereabouts is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Investigations are continuing.
