A road in Brisbane’s inner north has been closed off as police negotiate with a man believed to have a replica firearm.

Officers blocked off Mayne Rd between Campbell St and O’Connell Terrace about 4.35pm.

After the man was earlier seen wandering the streets, he moved inside a residence where police negotiated with him. He was not found inside when police entered.

Police left the scene just before 6:30pm.

It was understood to be a mental health incident. Inquiries are continuing.
