The man is believed to have had previous dealings with police and was spotted by an off-duty officer at Sunshine Plaza at Maroochydore about 2pm.
The off-duty officer contacted other police who quickly descended on the area, but the man then ran when he saw them.
During an ensuing struggle a male Senior Constable was struck on the head with a glass bottle.
In vision of the struggle the man can be seen struggling on the ground of a barbershop before running across a busy pedestrian thoroughfare filled with shoppers.
“Just get out of the way,” one woman is heard telling another spectator as the man runs past them.
He was tasered seconds later, screaming and collapsing to the ground in an instant, before regaining his footing and attempting to run again.
What happens next is not caught on camera, but the vision shows the still screaming man being loaded into a waiting police van in the shopping centre’s car park.
No charges have been laid and the injured Senior Sergeant was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
Investigations are continuing.
