A man has been charged over a stabbing at Albion train station in Brisbane’s inner north on Tuesday night.

The 31-year-old male victim was in a stable condition in Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital after what was thought to be a random attack at the station about 8.15pm.

He was stabbed in the back in an altercation with another man.

Police said the men were not known to each other and the offender ran from the scene.

A man was arrested at a Stafford Heights residence about 4.30pm on Wednesday.

He has been charged with one count of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday.

According to Queensland police data, 13 offences have been recorded at the Albion station platform in the past year.

More than 70 other offences were also recorded in the streets surrounding the platform, including four weapons charges and a raft of assaults.

A worker at a nearby auto repair business said the area was known for some “dodgy” characters.

“We’ve been broken into a couple of times, the last time was about six months ago,” he said.

“There’s always a lot of people around… and occasionally you see a few dodgy dudes.”

Trish Brown said the lack of security at the platform was an invitation for criminals.

“There is no security at all,” Ms Brown said.

“Lots of s**theads roaming around as well looking for cash.”

Queensland Rail head of South East Queensland Scott Riedel defended security, saying the station was regularly patrolled.

“Albion station is subject to intelligence-led patrols by QPS (Queensland Police Service) Railway Squad Officers and Queensland Rail Authorised Officers,” Mr Riedel said.

“These resources can also be redirected in real-time as required, as was the case with last night’s incident.

“Security officers on-board our ‘Guardian Train’ services each night also regularly pass through Albion station.”

Mr Riedel said two services were delayed during the incident and CCTV had been passed onto police to assist with the investigation.

“Queensland Rail does not tolerate crime or anti-social behaviour on the network and works closely with QPS including the 86-officer-strong QPS Railway Squad, to deter, detect, identify and prosecute offenders.”
