A man has been extradited to Queensland and charged with attempted murder after an alleged altercation near Mt Isa at the end of last year.

Meshak Wollogarang, 23, briefly appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday, represented by ATSILS lawyer Derek Finch.

Wollogarang was arrested on Monday after a warrant was issued for his arrest following police investigations into a wounding incident at Doomadgee on December 28.

A police spokesman said their initial investigations indicated that two men, believed to be known to each other, became involved in a physical altercation on the corner of Robert Street and Boomerang Street around 9.15pm.

Police located a man in his 20s with wounds to his throat and chest upon arrival, and he was transported to Doomadgee Hospital in a serious condition.

It will be alleged that Wollogarang left the scene on foot prior to the police’s arrival.

He has since been extradited from the Northern Territory and charged with attempted murder (DV), and 16 counts of breaching bail.

Mr Finch told the court his client would make no application for bail at this stage.

Wollogarang was remanded in custody and will appear via video at the matter’s next mention at Mount Isa Magistrates Court on May 13.
