A man has been charged with murder after a woman suffered a horrific head injury when she was allegedly thrown from a moving vehicle in the state’s north.

It is understood witnesses rushed to help the 39-year-old Palm Island mother after she fell from a car and landed on a dirt road on the morning of September 1.

She was flown to Townsville University Hospital but died there two days later.

A statement released on Monday by Queensland Police Service confirmed a man had been charged with murder (domestic violence) following an extensive investigation.

“It will be alleged that emergency services were called to a Clump Rd residence on September 1, following reports the woman had sustained a life-threatening head injury,” the statement said.

“She was airlifted to Townsville University Hospital for treatment, however, passed away from her injuries on September 3.

“Following extensive investigations, officers arrested and charged a 36-year-old Palm Island man with murder (domestic violence offence) on September 16.”

Police said the man and woman were known to each other.

The man was remanded in custody and is due to appear before Townsville Magistrates Court on November 5.
