Man bound and seriously injured in Mount Isa robbery

A store owner was allegedly bound and cut with a knife in an horrific, hours long ordeal in the state’s northwest.

A store attendant was bound and cut across the forehead during an hours long alleged robbery in north Queensland overnight.

Police say that a 38-year-old man entered a store on Miles St in Mount Isa around 5.30pm Thursday, where he produced a knife and demanded money from the male store worker.

During the incident, it is alleged that the store worker was bound at the hands with zip ties and cut across the forehead.

The accused allegedly made off with a sum of cash, while his alleged victim freed himself from his bindings and called for help.

He was taken to the Mount Isa Hospital for treatment in a stable condition around 11.30pm.

Police say that the man accused of the first incident then went to another business, this time on West St, where he threatened two female workers with a knife around 12.50am.

The women managed to escape and call police, who responded immediately and arrested the 38-year-old man from The Gap.

He has since been charged with two counts each of armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, assault occasioning bodily harm and one count each of torture and acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

He will face the Mount Isa Magistrates Court today.
