Man bailed on two counts of sexual assault

A man who allegedly sexually assaulted two women in a suburban shopping centre has been granted bail.

A man who allegedly sexually assaulted two women in a suburban shopping centre has been granted bail.

The man, who has a mental impairment and cannot be identified, faced Brisbane Magistrates Court charged with two counts of sexual assault and a breach of bail.

Police allege the man approached a woman working in a department store at the Capalaba Park shopping centre in the Redlands and inappropriately touched her from behind.

The incident allegedly happened about 2.45pm on April 10.

Police received reports of similar assaults of two other women within the complex, one located in the carpark and the other in another department store however the man was only charged in to relation to one further incident.

The man’s lawyer Patrick O’Donnell, from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service, said his client was under guardianship orders and had been in Brisbane for a number of weeks.

Mr O’Donnell proposed a number of bail conditions including a GPS tracker, a curfew, no contact conditions, a banning order and a residential address in the South Burnett region.

Magistrate Melinda Bradford Morgan granted bail but ordered a banning notice prohibiting the man from going within 200m of Capalaba Park.

The man must report to police and live at the South Burnett address with his aunty.

The matter was adjourned to June 13.
