A man accused of killing Hervey Bay Uber driver Scott Cabrie has pleaded guilty to his manslaughter.
Tye Wayne Porter was charged with Mr Cabrie’s murder but the Crown accepted his plea to the lesser charge of manslaughter during an arraignment in the Brisbane Supreme Court on Monday.
Porter, who appeared via videolink from the Maryborough Correctional Centre, also pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and robbery while armed and in company, and unlawfully setting fire to a vehicle.
It’s alleged Porter was with a juvenile offender when the pair killed Mr Cabrie during a robbery gone wrong in February last year.
The victim was forced into the boot of his car and escaped but was chased and fatally stabbed, allegedly by the juvenile offender. His body was later found at a boat ramp.
That offender, who was 17 at the time, pleaded guilty to murder, arson, armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle during an arraignment last month.
The maximum penalty for a juvenile convicted of manslaughter is 10 years imprisonment.
But the maximum increases to life if it is established the offence was both an act of violence and was “particularly heinous”.
Crown Prosecutor Chris Cook said the Crown would be seeking a finding that the offending was particularly heinous.
The juvenile and Porter will both be sentenced in the Brisbane Supreme Court on July 8 by Justice Peter Davis.
