A man charged by the Crime and Corruption Commission for allegedly hiding nearly $2 million worth of drugs has been identified in court as Andrew Tee.
Tee, 37, from Pellara, was on Tuesday remanded in custody and made no application for bail after investigators seized nine kilos of methylamphetamine – some allegedly hidden in secret compartments of Tee’s car.
According to the CCC, the drugs are estimated to be worth $1.73 million
A CCC statement revealed Tee was intercepted by Queensland Police in Mudgeeraba during a targeted operation as he travelled back to Queensland on Friday afternoon.
“After executing a search of the vehicle, it was seized for further examination,” the CCC statement said.
“The vehicle was transported to another location where it was searched with the assistance of Australian Border Force (ABF) officers.
“An x-ray of the vehicle identified a hidden compartment and further searches subsequently found nine separate one kilogram packages of methylamphetamine, a small amount of cash and drug paraphernalia.”
During further searches of properties linked to Tee, a number of items and $15,900 cash were seized.
The CCC revealed a search of Tee’s work premises found evidence allegedly linking Tee to large scale drug trafficking.
Tee was subsequently charged by CCC detectives with one count each of trafficking dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing anything used in the commission of a crime, and possession of property suspected of being tainted.
At Richlands Magistrates Court on Tuesday, Tee was supported by his wife.
The pair have been married for several years, with a video of their elaborate wedding – titled “Bling Bling” showcasing the couple’s nuptials online.
During the four-minute clip, the couple walked through two giant custom-made golden guns, while Tee also flashed his chunky gold jewellery and elaborate gold rings.
Magistrate Aaron Simpson on Tuesday adjourned Tee’s matter for a committal mention at Southport Magistrates Court, set down for 21 June.
