Man, 20, dies after being stabbed in Logan suburb of Underwood
Police are refusing to rule out whether an altercation between two groups of young men south of Brisbane that ended in the death of a 20-year-old was gang related. It comes as friends pay tribute to the man they called “wombat”.

A 20-year-old man who died after being stabbed in the neck at Logan as he returned from a night out early this morning had been involved in a fight between two groups of young men, police say.
It is understood Aiden Rhys Bower-Miles, was stabbed in the neck during the melee.
The incident unfolded at Underwood, with police called to a Fermont Rd unit about 1am.
Grieving friends and family are gathering to remember and support each other after the sudden death.
Kristy Broadhead took to social media to invite loved ones to Jacobs Well Boat Ramp Cruise.
“all welcome leave your differences at home we are there for the kid… wear red,” she said.
Kayla Jade created stickers that she plans to sell for $10 to help cover funeral expenses.
“I will be taking a small amount to cover vinyl expenses but the rest will be going to his mum, you don’t make money on a friends death,” she said.
“I will have them with me for tonight’s cruise.”
Friends of Mr Bower-Miles who paid tribute to him online, saying he was “a clown” and “very loved”.
Police say Mr Bower-Miles was coming home from a night out with a group of friends when they became involved in a fight with another group of people.
During the altercation, he was stabbed in the neck.
“It would appear two groups of people have had a disturbance at the end of the street,” South Eastern Regional Crime Coordinator Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith said.
It’s understood that when the groups – believed to be all young men in their 20s – dispersed, Mr Bower-Miles started walking to his friend’s unit, about 100m down the road, when he collapsed.
Supt Smith said it was too early to tell if it was gang related but there have been no arrests at this stage, as he called for witnesses to come forward.
“That’s obviously a line of inquiry, it doesn’t appear to be (gang-related), but I don’t want to rule anything out,” he said.
“The numbers (in the group) are fluctuating, and it’s important that those people who were involved … now is their opportunity to come forward.
“Fighting these battles is not just a policing concern but a community concern, so please come forward.”
He said this was a tragic reminder of the danger of knives.
“These things wouldn’t happen if people didn’t carry knives.”
Neighbours have described hearing screams in the area, with homicide detectives launching an investigation and forensic officers now combing the area for clues.
One said he was woken up to shouting around 1am.
“There was a lot of arguing, high pitched arguing that’s what woke me up,” he said.
“I heard a lot of shouting, I heard a female and a couple of males.”
The Neighbour said he heard a loud voice screaming “you’ve stabbed me”.
According to close friends Mr Bower-Miles was your typical 20-year-old.
“He was a standard 20 year old who loved his friends and family,” one friend said.
“He would go out and be the clown of the group.
“He was very loved and will always be missed.”
She said Mr Bower-Miles had a love of cars and was working with a friend and his father at a local workshop.
“He loved skids, being a clown and his loved ones,” she said.
“He was a great friend and an amazing son.
“Everyone who knew him loved him.”
A friend who last saw Mr Bower-Miles just a week ago said she would miss him dearly.
“Rest in Peace to another beautiful soul,” she said.
“Worst news to wake up to … you are were loved by everyone around you and definitely the life of the party.
“Everyone is going to miss seeing your face around and everyone is going to miss hearing your loud voice out.
“Didn’t think that’s Friday night would be your last night out, but I’m glad we got to spend it with you.”
Other friends have shared tributes online.
“Only p***ie’s carry knives another life taken way too soon,” one said.
“Thinking it’s OK to use weapons you have fist for a reason use them.
“Forever 20 Aiden.”
“Another bro gone way to soon because some coward can’t fight with their hands,” another friend shared online.
It is understood Mr Bower-Miles went by the nickname “Wombat”.
“Rest in peace wombat … you’ll be forever missed,” another friend said online.
“Rest easy bro party hard can’t believe another one too leave this world too soon,” a mate shared.
“Still can’t believe it … rest in peace brother hope the next life treats you better,” a friend shared.
Loved ones of Mr Bower-Miles have started a fundraiser to support the 20-year-old’s mother with the cost of his funeral.
Sharney Rogers, 21, a friend of Mr Bower Miles, said every cent raised from the GoFundMe would be given to his mother.
“We’re making a GoFundMe to help raise money for Aiden’s mum and family to cover the costs of his funeral and help his mum.”
“As we all know unfortunately Aiden has sadly passed away and any little bit of money will help go towards his funeral,” said Ms Rogers in the fundraiser description.
Earlier she had posted a tribute to her slain friend “forever going to be thinking of you,” with #forever20.
A relative of Mr Bower-Miles shared the fundraiser saying any donations will help to give him “the best send off.”
“No one should ever have to go through this.”
“I love you I promise I will hold onto mum tight,” she added.
Residents in the area say they were shocked to see a crime scene so close to home.
Electrical business owner Abbos Ahmedov said it used to be a quiet area.
“Obviously it’s not safe when you’re raising kids here when someone gets killed out of the blue, it’s shocking,” he said
“I think we need more police presence here there’s a lot of crime here.”
Mr Ahmedov said he was sad for the man that died.
“He was a young fellow that must have had a bright future,” he said
Another neighbour, Anmol Singh, said he was worried when he was confronted by crime scene investigations when he returned home from work at 5am.
“It was a bit scary,” he said
“My wife was okay, she didn’t hear anything she was sleeping.”
Indya Rose Sandy said she was chilling near her home when she heard screaming.
“There were a fair few loud screams,” she said
“We heard them yelling someone got stabbed in the neck.
Ms Sandy said people were doing CPR on the man who was stabbed.
“There were a few girls there … everyone looked scared and horrified,” she said
“It’s just sad for the families, it’s horrible seeing them like that.”
Ms Sandy said she saw a large group hanging around.
“They were trying to comfort each other and calm each other down,” she said.
“They were just doing CPR on him for a while.”
Supt Smith has urged anyone who saw a black SUV in the area between 1am and 2am to come forward.
“The smallest bit of information is quite often the bit we need to solve the puzzle,” he said.
