Bobby Widl, 42, was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital with life-threatening injuries after police allege witnesses saw a car swerve towards him as he stood on a footpath at Bull Street, Pimpama about 2pm Friday.

According to witness statements taken by police and CCTV viewed by detectives, Widl was sent flying through the air before slamming into a nearby parked car.

Kane Chase Morris, 28, was arrested a short time later and faced Southport Magistrates Court on Saturday, charged with one count each of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, common assault (domestic violence offence) and driver failing to remain at an incident and render assistance.

The alleged victim of the assault charge was a female also present at the time of the drama.

Defence lawyer Mollie Roper told the court Mr Widl had sustained “serious and life threatening injuries” including bleeding on the brain and had been placed in an induced coma.

The case was adjourned until Monday to await any updates on Mr Widl’s condition.

It is understood he is now in a stable condition.

Mr Widl recently lost his older sister and another sibling took to Facebook to share her anguish.

“We’re so lucky that his (sic) alive as we just lost our older sister 8 weeks ago,” wrote Angela Widl.
