Jebb Brayden Hansford to front court over alleged prawn trawler stabbing

Paramedics and police have made a treacherous six-hour return journey by boat, battling huge swells, to treat a prawn trawler crew member and arrest another over a violent outburst that ended in an alleged stabbing off the Queensland coast.

A man who allegedly stabbed another crew member on board a prawn trawler has faced court over the violent outburst in the Gulf of Carpentaria.

Police will allege Jebb Brayden Hansford, 27, stabbed the 27-year-old man from Western Australia in the arm after a fight broke out on-board the trawler about 9pm on Saturday.

The skipper of the boat raised the alarm, calling police to report that a heated exchange of words had escalated and turned violent.

Crew members managed to detain Mr Hansford while also tending to the injured man, who is understood to have had arterial bleeding from the significant laceration.

Paramedics and police then made the treacherous six-hour return journey by boat, battling huge swells, to treat the crew member and arrest Mr Hansford.

The injured man was taken to Normanton Hospital in a stable condition.

Mr Hansford appeared in Normanton Magistrates Court on Monday afternoon charged with grievous bodily harm.

He made no application for bail and his matter was adjourned until May 12.
