An 18-year-old Ayr woman who attacked a man and threatened to kill his chickens has pleaded guilty to numerous assault and trespass offences in Townsville Magistrates Court.
Ainsley Jayne Wall was a full-time employee at McDonalds Ayr when the incidents occurred over November 26 and 27, 2023.
The court heard she’d been visiting a man known to her when she grew jealous he was looking at his phone and assaulted him to gain access to the device.
This included bending the man’s finger backwards and pressing it against the phone to unlock it.
When the man went to collect his keys and leave, she hit him in the back of the head and said “if you don’t come back inside I’m going to kill your chooks”.
Magistrate Richard Lehmann said the 18-year-old then walked the man outside to the chicken pen.
“You asked him which was his favourite chook and said ‘I’m going to neck it, I’m going to smash your phone,” Mr Lehmann said.
“It’s a serious, protracted and prolonged incident involving numerous acts of coercive violence.”
The man ended up leaving the address on foot and calling the police.
Two police officers located Wall the next day hiding in a cupboard.
When they pulled her from the cupboard, Wall bit a female police officer in the knee area so hard it broke the skin through her clothing.
In a statement, the female officer said visible teeth marks and large bruises remained for two weeks and she’s still waiting for a disease report, which has left her in limbo and unable to kiss her family members or embrace them.
Solicitor Brandon Wood said his client was educated to year 10 and was a full-time employee at McDonalds Ayr where she had opportunities to go into management.
“She has no criminal history, she’s spent 64 days in custody, this is her first time in custody and it’s been a significant wake-up call for her,” Mr Wood said.
Wall pleaded guilty to multiple charges including assault occasioning bodily harm, serious assault police officer by biting, serious assault (resist/obstruct) police officer, trespassing and unlawfully entering or remaining in a dwelling.
Magistrate Lehmann sentenced Wall to 18 months imprisonment, stressing the persistent nature of her assault.
Wall will be eligible for parole on March 27, 2024.
