A teen boy alerted police in horror after noticing a phone camera being held over his toilet stall door at an iconic Brisbane mall, a court has heard.

Former ATO call centre worker Patrick Robert Green, 21, faced Brisbane Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Prosecutor Jordan Theed said Green had come to police’s attention in January after he took photos of a teenage boy at a public bathroom on Queen Street Mall.

The boy had noticed Green’s phone sticking out over the toilet door and immediately alerted his parents and police, Mr Theed said.

When police arrested Green, they found similar voyeuristic acts recorded on his phone at public toilets in Robina and Logan Reserve.

On January 6, Green had recorded himself performing a sexual act at an exposed urinal, before panning to an elderly man at the sinks.

Green continued recording as the man gave him an “angry look”, and Green followed him out into a shopping centre.

He had also photographed two other men without their knowledge in January, one who had been performing a sexual act in a bathroom stall.

Green pleaded guilty to four counts of recordings in breach of privacy, and one count each of indecent act in a public place, possessing cocaine, and possessing utensils.

The court heard he felt “significant remorse, embarrassment and regret” for his actions.

ATSILS defence lawyer Andrew Fleming said his client had been struggling with anxiety and depression, and had also been “coming to grips with his bisexuality” at the time.

Mr Theed said a psychologist’s report concluded Green likely met the criteria for a voyeuristic disorder.

Mr Fleming said his client, a former ATO call centre worker, had left his job and planned to move back to Alice Springs as soon as possible to be with his family.

He said Green planned to work in admin at Alice Springs, and submitted the recording of a conviction would endanger his prospects of obtaining an Ochre Card – the Northern Territory equivalent of a Blue Card.

Green had no criminal history, and the psychologist had deemed him a low risk of reoffending, the court heard.

He was fined $2500, with no convictions recorded.
